APARTAMENT IN BAIRRO DAS ESTACAS

The São João de Deus Social Housing Neighbourhood is a hallmark of the Portuguese Modernist movement of the 1950s. However, the façade of this building, characterised by its permeability between interior and exterior, has been distorted over time by alterations such as awnings, sheet metal porches over the top floor balconies, and the removal of the concrete grating in the kitchen. The renovation of this duplex apartment restored these elements, introducing slight adaptations to the interior that meet the demands of contemporary private life. The kitchen was modernised, the staircase was redesigned, the wooden floor was restored and extended throughout the apartment, a bathroom was added on the living area floor, and the bathroom on the bedroom floor was divided into two.
